The Lithuanian-American Community (LAC) will hold its annual Board of Directors meeting in Washington, DC September 20-22, 2002. Numerous events are being organized for the meeting participants, guests, and members of the community. You are invited and encouraged to attend.

Friday, September 20, 2002:

  • Lobbying Day on The Hill: The morning will begin with a briefing by a member of the Administration (TBA) regaring US policy towards Lithuania, especially on issues related to NATO. LAC will schedule meetings for the participants to meet with their Congressmen and Senators in the morning and afternoon.
  • Holocaust Museum: A delegation will visit the Holocaust Museum for a scheduled private tour mid-afternoon.
  • Amber Exhibit: Opening of a spectacular new amber exhibit from the Amber Museum in Lithuania at a downtown venue (details TBA).
  • Lithuanian Embassy: The Embassy will host a reception for the participants in the weekend activities.

Saturday, September 21, 2002:

  • Board of Directors Annual Meeting: All day. The meetings are open to members of the community who may wish to observe, however, registration is required. Breakfast and lunch are included in the cost of registration.
  • Organized Tour of Washington: Guests visiting Washington, DC who do not wish to observe the meetings may join a morning-long tour of Washington major landmarks. This tour will include a visit to the Siluva Chapel at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Space is limited to 45 people. Please let us know in advance if you would like to participate in the tour, as the tour will take place only if there is a sufficient number of interested people.
  • Awards Gala: A black tie optional evening gala to honor members of the House, Senate and Administration who have been particularly helpful in Lithuania efforts to join NATO. This event will be held at the Washington Marriott hotel. Tickets are $65/p.p.

Sunday, September 22, 2002:

  • Mass: Will be held at the Washington Marriott Hotel. Time (TBA).
  • Board of Directors Annual Meeting: Half-day meeting. Breakfast will be served.
