Lithuanian Prime Minister at NATO HQ
Lithuania Seeks Admission into NATOOn January 31, Lord Robertson met with Prime Minister, Rolandas Paksas, for the first time since he was appointed to this post after the general elections held last October. They discussed a number of issues including Lithuania's foreign policy priorities, the country's relations with Russia and its participation in the NATO-led peacekeeping forces in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Also on the agenda was Lithuania's on-going preparations for potential membership of the Alliance. Assessment of progress made so far is currently underway, in particular, regarding defence reform. The new government has stated that it is keeping the agreed spending targets for defence at 1.95%-2% of its GDP.
