ActivitiesLithuanian American Community, Inc. The Lithuanian American Community, Inc. (LAC, Inc.) was founded in 1951 and is incorporated as a non-profit organization. The major purpose of LAC, Inc. is to organize, support and engage in activities which promote and foster the Lithuanian culture and traditions unique to individuals of Lithuanian descent of which approximately 800,000 live in the United States. This purpose is accomplished through the regular sponsorship of specific cultural events; such as: song, music and folk dance festivals, concerts, art exhibits, cultural exhibitions, science symposiums. Through its publications (in the Lithuanian language as well as in English) and, especially, through its network of cultural language schools, LAC, Inc. has been the driving force in keeping the Lithuanian culture alive and thriving throughout the long years of Lithuania's occupation. In addition, LAC, Inc. also provides a variety of targeted humanitarian assistance programs; primarily, to its membership base here in the US, as well as to those individuals requiring specific (and as yet unavailable) aid in Lithuania. LAC, Inc. played a key role in Lithuania's struggle and attainment of freedom, and continues to provide humanitarian, economic and moral assistance and support to a reawakening democratic homeland. The nerve center of LACINC activities is based in Reston, VA at the LAC Public Affairs office. It is from this office that information is disseminated regarding Lithuania, Lithuanians and Lithuanian activities. The policy making body is the LAC, Inc. National Board made up of elected representatives. The LAC, Inc. Executive Committee is the executive body. The membership of LAC, Inc. includes all individuals of Lithuanian descent. Activities are carried out through the 63 local chapters headquartered in 27 states and the District of Columbia as well as nation-wide events organized in areas of interest: cultural, educational, human services, economic, public affairs, religious affairs and youth affairs.
